About Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga

The Omkareshwar Temple, located in Madhya Pradesh on the Om-shaped Mandhata Island in the Narmada River, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. Revered as the physical embodiment of the primordial sound "Om," the region boasts 68 pilgrimage spots and 108 Shiva Lingas. The natural Shiva Linga at Omkareshwar is always surrounded by water, and pilgrims traditionally visit the nearby Mamleshwar Temple as well. Historical ties to Bhil kings, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, and King Mandhata enhance its spiritual significance. The site also features many sacred temples, ashrams, and the belief that witnessing the Narmada River grants immense spiritual merit.
